November 2022 documentation refresh for Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.3

Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.3 documentation is refreshed today to include the following enhancements:

Enhancements in COBOL 6.3 with PTFs installed: (For a complete list of Enterprise COBOL PTFs, check https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/604539):

  • PH49715: Updated the NUMCHECK compiler option to avoid generating runtime checking code of zoned decimal senders in MOVE statements when the receiver is an alphanumeric data item and NUMCHECK(ZON(LAX)) is in effect. (NUMCHECK)
Documentation fixes in COBOL 6.3:

- In Programming Guide:

  • Added a statement to supplement for error handling in different conditions. (Writing routines for handling errors)
  • Amended to state that CONDCOMP(SKIPSRC) will cause compiled out source lines to be omitted from the listing and SYSMDECK. (CONDCOMP)

    - In Language Reference:

    • Added an example of an IF statement with two conditions combined with the logical AND operator. (Combined conditions)

    - In Migration Guide:

    • Added an FAQ about which COBOL 6 version to choose to migrate to. (Before migration)
    • Updated the FAQ about IBM DevOps tools that can speed up migration. (Before migration)

    - In Customization Guide:

    • Amended to state that CONDCOMP=SKIPSRC will cause compiled out source lines to be omitted from the listing and SYSMDECK. (CONDCOMP)
