Getting Started with Instana

Welcome to Instana! This blog aims to take you through the resources that you need to get up and running monitoring your technology stack. We will also look at resources that can help you when you have issues or need a bit of help. You can also find these resources on this webcast.

The Community

The first thing that you should do is sign up for the Instana community. From events to technical blogs the community has a vast repository of resources that you can use to speed up your Instana Deployment, find use ways to use Instana or just be aware of the latest happenings in the world of Observability.

The Library

All replays of past events live in the Instana Library so even if you missed the live session you can still get the information. We recommend searching by tag for the event because that will give you a list of relevant material to that topic

Discussion Forum

Have a how to question and want to get answers from Experts. Post in the Community Discussion Forum. This resource is monitored by Instana Subject Matter experts and we aim to get you answers as soon as possible.

Sometimes things go wrong our goal is to make sure that when that happens IBM support should be your first port of call.

Before sending in a ticket consider the following:

·      Check community  and documentation for how to questions

·      Check network connection including firewall

·      Check Instana Status page for known issues

Information needed in a support ticket

·      Subject and Description

·      Type

·      Priority

·      Business Severity

·      Company

·      Instana Backend Deployment OR SaaS URL (if deployment is SaaS)

·      Time range Issue Occurred

·      Logs

·      Saas: Add any links to help agent review issue

·      Self-Hosted: Screenshots of components broken

·      Debug logs instana debug –upload logs to case

If you have a great idea for Instana, a feature that’s needed or just some update then Aha is the place to go. You can create your request there, see what other Instana users have added and  vote on the requests that you think are most useful. This ranking is used by our development teams when planning out the next releases to the product so your feedback is appreciated here

Portal

Within the portal there are a number of different guides. You can use the search bar in the help section to narrow down what you are looking for. Guided tours are a great way to follow along with the basics and get going quickly with Instana but there are also recommended articles and links to the appropriate documentation on the site.

Instana’s Customer Success team are here to make sure that you are seeing value from your Instana investment. Please get in touch with us and we can help you with your deployment , usage or onbaoarding questions. If you don’t know who your CSM is you can email digitalcustomersuccessemea@ibm.com and we can look into it for you. Please put Instana in the subject title so that the right person can help you
