A Q&A with our December Member of the Month Joseph

By Alexis Street posted Thu January 09, 2014 10:31 AM

We caught up with our December Member of the Month Joseph in a short Q&A. Read on to learn more about Joseph his WebSphere background and what’s next for him.

  1. What is your current position and how long have you worked with WebSphere technology?

I presently work as a WebSphere Consultant where I speak to various WebSphere-related products including architecture solutions operational best practices troubleshooting security and tuning. I’ll also be involved to set up the standards and strategies for WebSphere products.

I began using WebSphere in 2005 after completing my training and certifications on Unix and networking. That experience gave me a strong foundation to understand end-to-end operations of WebSphere software.

  2. Tell us about the features of your blog Joseph’s WebSphere Library.

I think [my blog] is a gift by God’s grace to me. Parables – I can explain to others by taking examples from nature or something that they know of. My blog initially started by just posting my study notes and many people found it useful. Later I wrote previews of new features followed by writing different series on new WebSphere versions and troubleshooting. Recently some visitors have emailed and asked me to write about design operations and something for managers. Well here we go--a new topic on my blog!

  3. What are the most commonly asked questions on your blog?

Most of the questions I receive focus on performance-tuning especially any issue(s) inquirers are facing at work or in unanswered interview questions. Also people seek guidance for learning. The most satisfying email was received from a couple of guys letting me know that my blog had helped them stay in their job during recession time.

  4. What non-WebSphere products (example: IBM Worklight IBM Tivoli etc) do you use if any in conjunction with your WebSphere products?

I worked on ITCAM Directory Server. There are few other vendor and open source products that I work(ed) on but people recall me as ‘WebSphere boy.’

  5. You had a series of successful presentations on the GWC in 2011-2012. Will you be doing more presentations in the future on the GWC and if so on what topics?

Yes. I haven’t had as much time to do those marathon presentations or books. I’m thinking of making podcast instead of PDF or PPTs. I have started WebSphere 8.5.5 presentations so obviously I need to finish them. After that I might look at the engineering aspects of WebSphere.

Be sure to check out Joseph's WebSphere Library for graphs presentations and advice from Joseph!
