FlashSystem grid Storage Partition Migration to Support iSCSI-based Host Environments: Spectrum Virtualize version 9.1.1.0

A FlashSystem grid is a new way of managing storage. It’s a federated scalable storage platform to manage grid made up of multiple FlashSystems and Storage Virtualize Controllers. In today’s dynamic data center environments, operational consistency and automation are critical to maintaining agility and reducing risk. IBM Spectrum Virtualize has long offered robust partition migration capabilities in Fiber Channel (FC) deployments but until now, similar support for iSCSI environments has been missing. That’s about to change.

With the release of Spectrum Virtualize version 9.1.1.0, we’re excited to introduce native support for iSCSI-based host environments in storage partition migration workflows. This enhancement fills a significant functionality gap, allowing storage administrators to automate migrations in iSCSI configurations with the same confidence and efficiency as FC environments. This new functionality allows for seamless migration of data across partitions, improving flexibility and scalability in virtualized storage deployments.

Why This Matters
iSCSI remains a popular protocol, particularly in cost-sensitive or network-based infrastructure setups. However, iSCSI introduces its own complexities: multi-port configurations, portset definitions, host login validations, and more. Without native support, admins have had to rely on manual work arounds—leading to inconsistent processes and higher risk of error.
