  • 1.  User session counts from FileNet Usage Reporter

    Posted Mon February 27, 2023 04:10 PM

We are using the FileNet usage reporter tool to review who accesses the system on a monthly basis.  We see many users listed in the report who claim to never use FileNet which is odd.  There is no single-sign on enabled, so an integration point couldn't perform the logon behind the scenes without the user's knowledge.  Users do have NMO installed by default, but again, they would have to login to get access to documents.

Has anybody encountered such a situation, and is there a way to tell when users are logging in to FileNet?  We might be able to discern where the session is coming from if there is a timestamp or other supporting information like source IP.

Hi Christopher Collazo, Request you to share more information about FileNet usage reporter tool. Is it same as per document below? Which version of FileNet Content Manager you are running? http://ftpmirror.your.org/pub/misc/ftp.software.ibm.com/software/data/cm/filenet/docs/isdoc/40x/Usage_Reporter.pdf Thanks

    Ankit,

No, the tool is different than that link.  It is described here:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/filenet-p8-platform/5.5.x?topic=overview-collecting-license-compliance-records

I was incorrect about SSO, it is enabled.  This could explain all of the unexpected logins.  CPE is version 5.2.1.7.  I opened a case with IBM, but they cannot discern where the logons are coming from, only that they occurred in a given timeframe.

Hi Christopher Collazo, As you know, user session information is not stored in FileNet repositories. If ILMT fetching wrong count OR unable to provide tracing how user sessions are captured and calculated, I believe L3 should be good to approach with. FileNet 5.2.1.7 is end of support by 30-April-2019, you may consider to upgrade and work with L3/product team for your concerns. I am aware that there were some issues the way ILMT collect license centric statistics with version 5.2.x hence some remediation might help post upgrade counters still supported via ILMT with version 5.5.x https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/filenet-p8-platform/5.5.x?topic=counters-license-metric-tool. Thanks
