Support for NetApp Indefinite retention

For a long time a big hole in NetApps ONTAP functionality was the lack of indefinite retention in essence making event based retention impossible. With ONTAP 9.3 NetApp claims to support this functionality.

Is FileNet Content Manager/Content Fundation going to support this (in aligned mode of course)?

I kknow, no commitments, but just is IBM looking at it?

    Kind regards,

    /Gerold

    Gerold

You are correct that at this time we do not support the SnapLock implementation of indefinite retention. This is documented in the SPCR report "Note:

The Content Platform Engine SnapLock implementation does not support SnapLock indefinite retention, and permanent retention is set to the maximum retention allowed on individual files by SnapLock (01/19/2071). Permanent and indefinite retention are handled by Snaplock using the default volume retention setting and cannot be set using a “file last access” time. "

So we have looked at it, but the current implementation doesn't allow us to support the capability on a "per file" basis.

Also, we have a new feature web site that you can enter requests like this:https://dba.ideas.ibm.com/ideas -- please consider putting your requirements on this site so that others who are interested can add a vote. This helps us prioritize new feature suggestions.

    Thanks

Thanks, that was helpful. I'm going to put that - as you suggested - on the new feature website. For a LONG time NetApp was the favorite storage of customers around here (because of simplicity and functionality) but has lost a LOT of momentum as soon as customers were seriously looking into doing GPDR retention which needs EBR as a foundation.

    Thanks again,

    /Gerold
