    Hello community!

I would highly appreciate input for following questions:

We have a small client using 1 server with a local installation of Planning Analytics but we need to set-up ILMT.

    1. question: Is it a problem to have everything installed on 1 server (the VM)?

    x) License Metric Tool lite

    x) Disconnected Scanner

    x) VM-Manager and

    x) SQL-Server?

    2. question:

The IT refuses right know to connect directly via VM-Manager to the infrastructure below the VM.

Could you support me with some arguments using VM-Manager connected?

    x) is there a downside of connecting directly?

    x) how often is there a scan of the physical environment via License Metric Tool?

    x) does the scan of VM-Manager use resources?

    3. question:

If we have to use VM-Manager disconnected (offline), do you have a documentation, how to set it up? I didn't find any.

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Andreas

    Hello Andreas,

It's quite OK to install all those components on one machine.
(considering that all requirements are fulfilled: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=server-installation-requirements)

    As to VM-Managers:
To fulfil the licensing requirements data from VM managers must be collected every 30 minutes.
(Optionally, that default interval can be changed by means if vmm_polling_time_interval parameter)

Usually VM Manager scan doesn't use lot of Hypervisor resources (however the overall load is strictly virtualization type dependent, for example Hyper-V through PowerShell is the most resource intensive).
The overall performance of VM Manager scan depends on the network typology as well as the hardware specifications and the load of hypervisors.
Following is the list of all scan data collected from VM managers (may be handy for your IT department) :
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=managers-data-collected-from-vm-user-requirements

At last, following is a guideline how to set up VM-Manager disconnected :
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=tool-installing-vm-manager
