  • 1.  Is Port 50000 not recommended for Db2 database?

    Posted Wed May 31, 2023 11:37 PM

    Hi,

I've recently learned the dynamic port range for the recent versions of Windows and RHEL both overlap over 50000.

The default dynamic port range for TCP/IP has changed in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008 - Windows Server | Microsoft Learn

My understanding is that when we install Db2 and create a database,

its Service Port is automatically set to 50000.

Do you change it to other port for Datacap Database because rebooting OS may cause 50000 port to be occupied for OS use?

If so, which port is your choice?

Db2 recently changed its default port number for new installs.  This is probably the reason why.  Details may be found here along with information on changing the port number:

    Thank you for the link.

    Just to make sure.

Can Datacap work with port 25000 on Db2 Server?

I think our Db2 may be newer than 11.5.6 and thus Datacap will be connecting to port 25000.

Never used that port in Datacap projects before.

This is a interesting question.  I recently install DB 2 v11.5.8.  Having some issue deploying ICN but that's another issue.  The default port is 50000.
For datacap it uses 2404 port to talk to the Datacap TM server.  Datacap don't care about WAS.  It needs ICN but ICN needs WAS.  Datacap Navigator logon viia ICN needs a token from WAS for authentication to get to the admin engine.  Once it received the token and create a session through wTM - all communications is is being passed by ICN to tms server.   The db 2 database is where ICN store the user preferences.  As long as ICN can access the db2 user preference via the port than this should not affect Datacap.

You can leave it at port 50000 and see if everything is working, than change your db2 port to 25000.  See if that fail.  I am curious as well.

    Thank you.

I think I want to test 25000 port locally first.

    I think it is 2402.
