I would save the installation log next time. So at the very end of installation, it will ask if you want to view the install log. Do a "Yes" and save that file off to a location of your choice. Else it will still be save in the user profile temp folder for the installation log.
You can see what it's writing to the registry. Export the root datacap hive out before you install datacap and after you install datacap to see if it add the key for the

Subject: Is Datacap EventLog broken? How to fix it?
Thank you for visually explaining.
Our Datacap Server and Rulerunner Server are built on different machines.
Rulerunner Server machine has a Datacap Event Log called "Datacap Rulerunner Service" like yours on your screen shot after Installation.
But Datacap Server machine did not have a Datacap Event Log called "Taskmaster Server Sub" after installation.
Setting the System Event Log Level to max on Datacap Server Manager and starting Datacap Server did not created this "Taskmaster Server Sub" Event Log either. So, I had to manually create "Taskmaster Server Sub" Event Log. I've installed Datacap Server many times before. This case of missing Datacap Event Log on Datacap Server happened twice before. I'd like to know how this can happen. Typically, I will see "Taskmaster Server Sub" Event Log automatically created after installation.

Not sure why you have to add this.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\EventLog\Datacap\Datacap Rulerunner Service
the value is "C:\Datacap\Taskmas".
But since this key is under Rulerunner, perhaps you have to start up RuleRunner and enable event log to add that registry key.
My is there.

I have never really look at event log before or after datacap installation if it broke anything.
You can try to enable event log in taskmaster server manager. Select logging tab and pick system even log tab follow but sliding the ruler to capture event log for datacap.
I can't picture what you are seeing before and after datacap is installed. If you can show me before install and what event viewer looks like and after what it looks like maybe I can figure. But to trigger to event, maybe all you have to do is slide that ruler in the logging for tm server manager. That might create an evetn for you as oppose to manually create it.

Thank you for your comment.
> I don't think it's broken.
Event Viewer's Datacap entries always show "There is no explanation for Event ID 0".
I kind of think the "C:\Datacap\Taskmas" is broken and it is supposed to point to a message dll.
But I will leave it like this for now.
> When you install datacap did you select the setup.exe or the MSI?
I chose setup.exe
Have you seen Event Viewer without "Datacap" event log after Datacap installation?
I've seen this happen twice before. I worked around by manually creating Datacap event log in Windows OS registry.
I am not sure what triggers this failure of "Datacap" event log creation. Datacap installation always seems successful, though.

My 9.19 ifix 4 registry setting for both key looks just like yours.
I don't think it's broken. But you can export and import the dey from a working system.
However since yours looks like my, I don't think that is your issue.
When you install datacap did you select the setup.exe or the MSI?
For Setup.exe it check and install all the dependencies but when you run the MSI it thinks that you have all the dependencies and will not install them.
You might have to back up any custom application and probably be easier to reinstall.
Depending on your OS some has certain version of MS redistrutable.

I've checked 4 machines.
Under
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\EventLog\Datacap\Taskmaster Server Sub
A key named "EventMessageFile" has a value "C:\Datacap\Taskm".
The path seems broken.
Then, under
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\EventLog\Datacap\Datacap Rulerunner Service
the value is "C:\Datacap\Taskmas". Also seems broken.
On the other hand, VisualStudio's EventLog's "EventMessageFile" value is
"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\EventLogMessages.dll"
It seems Datacap EventLog creation has a defect or has gone wrong on my machines.
How do I fix it? Where is EventLogMessages.dll or something like that under C:\Datacap?
Can I manually fix it?
Our Datacap version is 9.1.9 IFix 4
