  • 1.  How to discontinue flow and resume elsewhere on the process map using gateways

    Posted Thu June 23, 2022 02:28 PM
    Hello,

I briefly remember in my blueworks training, there was a type of gateway that lets you indicate that a process flow ends somewhere but only to be resumed elsewhere on the process map. This I imagine useful for avoiding long flow lines across the entire process map that make it messy, or in my case, better indicate a disruption in the time / sequential nature between one activity and the next, which doesn't necessarily happen immediately afterwards. However I can't recall how to find such a gateway, when I try to insert it on a flow line (clicking on the plus icon that appears when hovered over the flow line in edit mode) the drop down menu does not offer any other option than an exclusive, inclusive, and parallel gateway.

Any help? Does anyone know what I'm referring to?
    Thanks

Hi Agustin. Blueworks uses link events for this. If you right-click on the flow line that you want to split, then select Show as link from the pop up dialogue box, it will split the line using link events and you can click on either of the events to travel to the other one. You can reverse this any time by right-clicking on one of the link events and selecting Show as line from the pop up

And if you want to indicate that you need to wait for a period of time between two activities, you could try using a timer event, and label it eg 3 Weeks Later. But just be careful you're not actually mashing together two different processes. Insert an interim timer event by clicking + on the flow line, then click on the expand arrow at the right to get more options, then select the event (circle) with the clock hands and triple border.
