Exclude ILMT server from reports and requiring VM Manager

  • 1.  Exclude ILMT server from reports and requiring VM Manager

    Posted Fri March 25, 2022 12:53 PM

I have two customers with the same problem. One is running IBM sw solely on Solaris, and the other on AIX. However, since ILMT server needs to run on RHEL (or Windows) this is a VMWare machine. This means that the ILMT server is flagged as having no VM Manager data.

I have tried to uninstall the scanner, and set CIT_Deny to 1, but the computer is still included in the reports. If I stop the BigFix Client, delete the computer from BigFix and do an import, it disappears, and the flag for "No VM Manager Data" is gone. But as soon as I start the client again, it pops up in the ILMT reports again.

Since no scanner is running, there are no reported software from this computer. All fields from the "Software Scan Status" analysis are "No information".

How can I solve this, so there are no flags and remarks in the Audit Snapshot, and the To Do list stops nagging about VM Manager.

    Hi,

Regarding your question, ILMT is working as it should. If you do not install the scanner on the ILMT server then you will get this message. The only way to remove the message is to install the scanner and setup ILMT properly.

ILMT is designed to have the scanner installed on the ILMT server.

    .

If you do not want to install the scanner you need to accept

the message and do not treat it as an error. ILMT is reporting the fact that the scanner is not working.

    .

Are they are all on the same machine?

If the computer does not contain any PVU licensed software

and you do not want it to be part of the scans you don’t need to have the BigFix Client running on the ILMT Server machine. Why do you keep a running BigFix Client on that machine? Stopping it will solve your problem.

    .

When you decommission a computer in your infrastructure, it

continues to report to License Metric Tool. The data is still collected from this computer, and displayed on the metric reports. To ensure that all infrastructure changes are reflected in License Metric Tool, you should remove each decommissioned computer from BigFix. If you cannot remove this computer

from BigFix for a valid reason, you can use an alternative solution, and decommission the computer in License Metric Tool.

    .

Please make sure you have removed the unwanted computer from BigFix completely:

    "Removing inactive computers from BigFix"

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=computers-removing-inactive-from-bigfix

    .

    "Automatically decommissioning inactive computers"

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=computers-automatically-decommissioning-inactive

    .

At the moment, according to our L3 has updated that the only

workaround to 'exclude' that machine is to define some custom Computer Subscriptions for the ILMT site:

    https://help.hcltechsw.com/bigfix/9.5/platform/Platform/Console/Dialogs/computer_subscriptions_tab.html

    .

The 'CIT_Deny' property could be used for subscription based

    on client property/setting.

That way all the machines which doesn't have 'CIT_Deny'

setting setup will be automatically subscribed to ILMT site.

By default, ILMT Server only 'monitors' machines which are

    subscribed to ILMT site.

    .

Note: by doing this you will no longer be able to run the

fixlet "Upgrade to the latest version..." on the ILMT server.

Because removing the ILMT server from the ILMT site prevents running fixlets...so, 're-subscription' process would have to be done per each upgrade.

    Hope this helps.
