  • 1.  Connect on-line Workflow server to IBM Business Automation Studio

    Posted Fri November 04, 2022 03:16 PM
    Hello,
We are new to IBM CP4BA. Currently, we have an instance of Workflow Server and an instance of Business Automation Studio.

We can't find a way to have the Workflow Server instance reported as OnLine server on Business Automation Studio.

Any idea on how to configure this?

The procedure to do this in previous versions on-premise was incliuded in the properties file used by BPMConfig.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Best regards!

    Hi Salvador,

did you try to follow these instructions:
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-biz-automation/22.0.1?topic=services-optional-customizing-workflow-server-connect-workflow-authoring

I haven't yet tested it myself but it should be the steps which need to be executed in order to connect an existing workflow runtime container deployment to a container based workflow authoring environment.

    Best regards,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Can a workflow project designed in BAS be migrated to and fully functional on stand-alone BAW on containers?

I think this question should be started in another thread, just to avoid confusion.

    YINg,

I think the answer to your question is yes. We have moved some projects from BAS to BAW Onpremise.
The opposite (OnPremis-to-Cloud) may work with some restrictions.

    Actually

    Hello Michael,

Nicholas here (again) , in the link you shared above, it clearly mentioned this point "This topic does not apply to stand-alone Business Automation Workflow.", may I know

     - Online workflow-server of Stand-alone BAW on containers can be connected to BAS or not?

     - in offline mode of migration, can workflow project artifacts authored by BAS can be imported and running on a stand-alone BAW-on-container's workflow server? can directly work? or need some converting step(s)?

    Hi again YING,

I guess the limitation you mentioned refers to the architecture.
Basically stand-alone behaves differently from Network Deployment both based on traditional setup for BAW.
There is not any stand-alone BAW-on-container's mode.
Perhaps you are mixing deployment with migrating?

I may sound silly, but just for clarification:

Applications built on BAW (WorflowCenter) or BAS could be deployed off-line or on-line.

On-line means that the target Process Server is shown in the Authoring Environment and you can deploy any application "on-line" from the Authoring environment to the target execution server.

If you are not able to see your target server, then you need to deploy "off-line" using the APIs (for cloud) or wasadmin for a traditional setup.

Hope this could be of any help to you.

Just a final note. We have been unable to connect an Execution Server to a BAS, both have been deployed on containers through Openshift. We have an open PMR for this issue.

    Best regards.
