    Hi eveyone,

Can you help with some questions regarding BAW?
    • How can I check my installation version?
    • Can I install BAW without cloud pak?
    • How can I check if cloud pak is installed?

Regards and thanks for the support.

    Hi Filipe,

There are many options to check the installed software version but you can easily get it from the top of your Sysout log, like -

Yes, you can install/run BAW without could pak, either on premises or on cloud.

    Thanks!

    Hi Filipe,

the answers to your questions depend on the type of installation/deployment and your license.

Whether you have a license for Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) or for Business Automation Workflow (BAW) is something you should actually know by yourself. It may be helpful to check, which software you are entitled to download from Passport Advantage. Typically you should only see the parts related to BAW and its supporting products (FileNet CM, Navigator, DB2, Websphere Appserver,...) but not for example Operational Decision Manager (ODM) or IBM Content Collector parts.

For a traditional installation,  if you own a CP4BA license, you can install the different capabilities of  CP4BA which are available for this type of installation, separately to each other, namely FileNet Content Manager, Business Automation Workflow, Operational Decision Manager, Datacap and IBM Content Collector (for SAP, Files, Email, SharePoint). You should see the entitlement to download the corresponding products from Passport Advantage and should be able install them.
A "Cloud Pak" component does not exist for traditional installations. You just install the capabilities you need.

For container based deployments, you typically load the containers from the IBM Container Registry. If you have a CP4BA license, you can install CP4BA on OpenShift using the Red Hat Operator Hub, as described in the documentation, or you can use the command line (also documented). For the deployment, you essentially decide which capabilities you want to install (e.g. Workflow = BAW) and the operator will install and configure the underlying common Cloud Pak components as well as the CP4BA with the capabilities you selected.

Some capabilities of CP4BA are also supported on CNCF (not only on OpenShift), namely FN CM, BAW, ODM. These components can be deployed on CNCF and can be integrated with each other (e.g. leveraging the User Management Service (UMS) for SSO between the different components). Such a deployment on CNCF does not use the underlying common Cloud Pak layer.

    Long story short:
If you own a license for BAW, you can install BAW either traditionally or on containers on a CNCF K8s platform.
If you own a license for CP4BA, you can install BAW (as part of CP4BA) either traditionally or on OpenShift (a limited use entitlement for OpenShift is included in the CP4BA license). Such a deployment on OpenShift will have the underlying common Cloud Pak layer.

Hope this helps to answer your questions.

    Best regards,
    Michael
