Returning assets in scenarios with multiple sites

    Dear Maximo enthusiasts,
i'd like to hear your take on the handling of asset swaps during repairs in Maximo.
The scenario is a bit long, so the TL/DR is:
Is returning rotating items to a storeroom really that difficult when 2 sites are involved?

    The scenario in detail:
We have a customer (using 7.6.1.x) intending to use rotating items to track assets both in use and during repair/storage scenarios.
They have a plant site P (multiple, in fact) and a storage site S. The sites all belong to the same organisation.

Our customer would prefer to handle this via the workorder applications since they want the repair technicans to do the data entry.
Retrieving an asset from a storeroom and installing the new asset in a location can be easily done using the WOTRACK app
by recording the material usage on the Actuals tab. That part works like a charm, but you cannot return the used asset that
you replaced in the same way.

For the return of the used part to a storeroom (which needs inspection/repair ofc..., but that is handled by the customers stooreroom team)
you can use the "Move/Swap/Modify" action in the WOTRACK app.
This is easy when the storeroom belongs to site P, but complicated when the storeroom belongs to site S.
Since Maximo is retiring the asset in the source site P and creating a new asset in the target site S,
it checks whether there are open work orders for thats asset and rejects the move if that is the case.
But this will always be the case - the "Move/Swap/Modify" action itself seems to add a MULTIASSETLOCCI referal to the workorder at hand
even if none existed before the action.
So we have a catch-22 - entering the data while processing that workorder requires the workorder processing to be completed(and thus readonly).

We could avoid having the site transfer when removing the asset from the plant by creating a "repair storeroom" in the site P as well.
This would allow for the workorder to be closed before the transfer to the storeroom in site S is done.
But thats no perfect solution. We all know the pitfalls of setting "CLOSED" on a workorder early.
Plus the transfer adds another step to the process, one which needs to be done using the inventory usage app.

Any suggestions which path we should take to improve this?

    Best regards
