  • 1.  Instana vCenter sensor multiple vcenters and one agent.

    Hi.
Per documentation (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/obi/current?topic=instana-monitoring-vsphere#configuration) you can deploy the agent on the vCenter itself or any agent of choice (linux/windows) on a remote system - the vCenter sensor is able to perform remote monitoring if installation on the vCenter is not possible.

Once the Instana agent is deployed, agent configuration YAML file to make the sensors connect to the vCenter services is: <agent_install_dir>/etc/instana/configuration.yaml

My question Is it is possible to configure remote connections to two different vcenters on one agent?

    Regards, Peter

It is not possible to monitoring multiple vCenters from a single Agent currently.  If this is an important capability, I suggest you open an Idea for an enhancement.  You can open Ideas here:  https://automation-management.ideas.ibm.com/?project=INSTANA

    Hi,

Apparently the configuration segment for vSphere allow just one vCenter, not many:
    com.instana.plugin.vsphere:
      host: https://<INSERT_VCENTER_URL_HERE>/sdk
      username: <INSERT_USERNAME_HERE>
      password: <INSERT_PASSWORD_HERE>
      enabled: true
      ...

You may create a Feature Request to include the ability to monitor multiple vCenters from one agent at https://automation-management.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/?project=INSTANA

    Regards,

    Luis

For these "remote"-based sensors, we should consider 1:n relationship where one agent can monitor multiple endpoints.
The new design for DB2 remote monitoring is exactly the right direction.
