We have seen this shift happen for quite some time now. Software Networking brings a significant operational paradigm shift for service providers. Today's physical network appliances that require highly manual processes to manage their end-to-end lifecycle are being replaced with a Software-based networking focus.

Network functions virtualization (NFV's) software paradigm promises fully automated lifecycle processes for bringing network services into production and maintaining them. Virtual network functions (VNFs) allow a much simpler set of lifecycle tasks enabling near-full automation of the creation and healing of virtual services, far more than is possible with their physical counterparts.

The CloudPak for Network Automation enables enterprises and service providers to move away from this hardware-driven approach to adopt software-driven automation that eradicates vendor lock-in by offering multi-vendor automation capabilities across a cloud-ready RedHat platform.
