SPSS Modeler 18.3 not recognizing license on M1 MacBook Pro

  • 1.  SPSS Modeler 18.3 not recognizing license on M1 MacBook Pro

    Posted Mon January 16, 2023 12:44 PM
I downloaded SPSS Modeler 18.3 and got an authorization code. I installed the the software on a M1 MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey (12.5.1). The software install was successful and I launched the application. At the "Welcome to IBM SPSS Modeler" dialog box I selected License Product. The License Status indicated no license found for SPSS Modeler 18.3. I selected "Next" and in the Product Authorization window I selected "Authorized user license...". I followed the steps to enter and add my authorization code and got a successful activation message with license code displayed. However, when I restarted the SPSS Modeler, the license was not recognized and I got the "Welcome to IBM SPSS Modeler" dialog box again indicating that my trial period had expired.

I saw a post that indicated for the latest macOS the Lock Code should be changed to begin with a "4". I went through the process I saw in the forum to do that and repeated the license activation process ensuring that the Lock Code indicated a "4-...". Again the activation process indicated success. However, the SPSS Modeler will not recognize the license and keeps indicating no license found for SPSS Modeler 18.3.

How can I get SPSS Modeler 18.3 on a M1 MacBook Pro with macOS Monterey (12.5.1) to recognize the license obtained through the activation process using the license authorization wizard? Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi @Roger Richards,

From your description, it sounds like your executing user profile has the privileges to run the License Authorization Wizard.  What seems unclear is whether this executing user has the proper privileges to update the underlying license file.

Use any text editor to view the contents of the license file here:
    /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Modeler/18.3/Resources/Activation/lservrc

If you find this file is empty, then that means you didn't have the proper privileges on it to be able to update it.

You should find a long license string: (This one is not real, sorry)
    J6XZIQAVV2GEOLMXFG9Z5E7KRG46FFT95ATJUOXIPMQYATWWYGCNXWG8W9FFUS7A9VRD3OKVXD7M239Z7HZ429U4Z8J7IC5VGM# "8400" version "183", expires Midnight of Jan 31, 2021, exclusive

If you do find such string, then:
    - Is it valid (correct product and version)?
    - Not expired?
    - Does your executing user have the privileges to read this file?

If it turns out that you do have a problem with the license string itself, it would be best to open a Licensing Support case:
https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/s/?language=en_US --> Then use the "Open a Case" blue button in the upper right of that page.

    I hope this helps!
