I am using SPSS 28 and filtered cases no longer appear with the diagonal line in the Data view tab.  The cases are actually filtered out of view.  Is there a setting to change this so I can see what cases are filtered out?  I have been unsuccessful finding a v28 user manual with this information.   Related, or perhaps unrelated, when I filter cases, the output file used to show text as to what filter was used.  However, that no longer appears.  Is this a setting as well?  Thank you for any guidance.

In V28, you have a choice of whether to hide unselected cases or show them with a slash as in previous releases.  Right click in the case number area and chose the appropriate mode.

Is there a way to make this change permanent?  In other words, I would like the default behavior to be showing the filtered cases with a slash rather than hiding the cases.  As it is, I have to uncheck the 'hide unselected cases' every single time I use a filter.

Again, version 29 is what you want. In it, the option to hide the cases was removed.

Regarding seeing what filter was being used in the output file, you need to go to the Edit->Options->Viewer tab and select the "Display commands in the log" checkbox.  This will echo all commands you enter in the output file, including the filter related commands.
