  • 1.  Custom Tables Significance Test Marks

    Posted Fri January 06, 2023 08:39 AM
Hi all and happy new year,
I am using Ctables to produce large tables containing several split variables which could have many split categories (e.g. countries, waves, brands combined).
Now, I was wondering if there is a maximum of split categories for significance tests?
And if there is a maximum, what will be displayed in case the maximum is reached?
Furthermore, what is the logic and order for the significance marks (A, B, C, 0, 1, 2, -, +, (, /, etc.)? Is this a limited list of characters?
    Best regards
    Alexander

AFAIK, there is no limit to the number of split categories, but with a large number of tests, you might want to consider using the Benjamini-Hochberg multiple testing correction instead of Bonferroni as the latter is very conservative and may overstate the correction with a large number of categories.

As for markers, if there are  more than 26 categories, the sequence uses doubled letters - AA, AB, etc.

    Thanks a lot, Jon!
One last question, more theoretically: Which logic for the markers will be used if ZZ is reached, i.e. if you have more than 702 split categories? Will it continue with trippled letters?

I have no idea, but 26*2 = 676 categories, which seems well beyond what anyone would do in a table.  Of course, all this applies to the lower case variants, too.

It just keeps adding letters. It goes a-z, aa-zz, aaa-zzz, etc.
