This is a question from the December 13 Lab Chat titled "WAS V8.5 Alpha: The Lightweight WebSphere Application Server “Liberty” Profile":

How does the zip/unzip server feature works out in different machine? If you import/export profiles the cell/node and other machine specific artifacts are changed automatically. What about OS dependent path differencies or so?

Each packaged WAS Liberty profile server is a standalone server. Environmental attributes are most typically isolated in the bootstrap.properties file that is packaged with the server. Starting with the WAS V8.5 Beta there are 2 mechanisms for distributing a packaged server:
    1) unmanaged: i.e move the zip and unzip it wherever you wish outside of any WebSphere management infrastructure
    2) centrally managed through the WAS ND Job Manager.
