    Goodday,

I just cannot get WebSphere 7 installed on Windows Server 2012.

I just get an Unsupported OS warning and then the installer crash.

    Apparently it needs Server 2008?

Do you know of some workaround or instructions for manual installation of WebSphere.

(This is to make my own VM for Maximo 7.5.0.7 which I need to do a Maximo 7.5.0.11 patch for an upgrade to Maximo 7.6)

    Thanks

    Christoff

    edit: Removed incorrect info

You might try running the installer executable under the Windows "compatibility mode" targeting 2008.

Before V7 was withdrawn from support, the latest fixpack (7.0.0.45) did list 2012 as supported.

For what it's worth, I was able to install WebSphere7.0 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM without doing anything special.  It did display the unsupported OS warning, but the install completed.

Christoff, if Eric's suggestion doesn't work, some more information might help diagnose what's going wrong.

Are you trying to install the 32 or 64 bit version of WebSphere 7?

Is it failing when trying to install :

    A) WebSphere
    B) the Update Installer
    C) the 7.0.0.45 fix pack (via the Update Installer)?

Which version of Windows are you using?

Are any errors reported when the installer crashes?

    Benson Lam and Eric Covener,

Thanks very very much for the responses gents – I really appreciate it.

The details of my installation are:

Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 (x64) (updated from internet)

20120307 - SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence (also updated from internet)

Trying to install WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.15 (x64) as supplied with the original Maximo 7.5..0.7 software.

I have to get this working to do the Maximo upgrade so any help will be highly appreciated.

Below are a few screenshots of the attempt with the errors.

As usual the instructions above are pretty useless – there is no DE folder in the MWI workspace.

Assuming that DE might refer to the 'DeploymentEngine' directory, I deleted that and then nothing works at all.

NOTE:   I saw the update patch version 45 on the internet but assume you need to install WebSphere first successfully before any updates can be applied.

    Hi Christoff,

This seems to be a known issue with the Maximo installer as described in thse docs:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/maximo-install-windows-2012
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ctgin9077e-deployment-engine-not-functioning-properly

As you've discovered, the Maximo installer on Windows 2012 fails to install WebSphere.  Instead you'll have to install and configure WebSphere manually. (or use an older version of Windows)

To manually install WebSphere, find the WebSphere install folder (it should contain folders called WAS & JDK).

Inside the WAS folder, you should be able to run install.exe and follow the prompts to install WebSphere.

You can keep clicking Next until you get to the "WebSphere Application Server Environments" page.  on this page, select 'None' for Environments (you'll manually create one when following the Maximo manual configuration steps)

After that install completes, you'll need to download the WebSphere Update Installer and Fixpacks from:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/70045-websphere-application-server-v70-fix-pack-45

and use the Update Installer to update WebSphere.

You can then follow the manual configuration steps in the Maximo installation Guide to configure Maximo to use your newly installed WebSphere.

    Benson,

Thank you very very much for the help – I have been stuck for days and will try this first thing coming Monday.

    I appreciate the help tremendously.

Will let you know next week how it turned out.

    Thanks again,

    Christoff

Christoff, if Eric's suggestion doesn't work, are you trying to install the 32 or 64 bit version of WebSphere?

Is it failing to install v7.0?  or is it failing when using the update installer to update to 7.0.0.45?

Which version of Windows 2012 are you using?
