Summary

Along came virtual machines, then containers, and lately orchestration for lots of containers via Kubernetes and OpenShift. There are very compelling reasons for moving workloads into containers and for OpenShift-based orchestration. However, for some VM-based workloads this migration is not immediately feasible. OpenShift virtualization allows you to move VMs hosting those workloads into OpenShift clusters.

• Introduce OpenShift Virtualization
• Discuss how it supports full VM orchestration natively
• Some adoption patterns that make sense.

Chris Almond is a Principal Storage Software Solution Architect and a member of the IBM Storage SWAT team. He boomerang'ed back to IBM in August '22 after working for Dell, Red Hat, VMware and few other technical sales roles in the Kubernetes startup ecosystem. Chris lives in San Diego with his wife Jennifer and a feisty Labradoodle named Finn.
