Product upgrade and system maintenance schedule

Thu December 29, 2016 05:23 PM

Applies to: Apptio Planning Essentials, Apptio Planning Standard

Apptio Planning Release Process

IBM Apptio Planning follows a bi-weekly release cadence, with updates deployed every two weeks. While not every release includes new features, each update may contain system enhancements or bug fixes to improve performance and stability.

To minimize disruption, new features are typically released behind a feature flag, allowing Admins to enable them when ready. This helps teams evaluate functionality in a controlled way before it impacts broader workflows.

TIP: Stay informed on upcoming releases by following the Apptio Planning: What’s New page. You can also view detailed release notes in IBM Documentation (login required).

Release cadence

Apptio Planning updates are deployed in two stages:

Sandbox Environments

  • Sandbox environments receive the release one week before production.

  • This early access window allows Admins to test features, validate integrations, and prepare users before the release reaches Main environments.

Main (Production) Environments

  • All Main environments are upgraded the following week.

If you need a Sandbox environment for testing, contact your Customer Success Manager.

    Upgrade and maintenance windows

Apptio releases are rolled out over a week, starting on Monday. Customer environments are upgraded on their selected Upgrade Day, with upgrades alternating weekly between sandbox and production environments.

In addition to product upgrades, Apptio performs routine system maintenance every Wednesday and Saturday. These maintenance windows are separate from product releases, and any downtime is expected to be minimal.

    Choosing your upgrade day

You can choose your preferred upgrade day via the Company Profile page:

    1. In Apptio Planning, go to the Settings menu ()
    2. Click Company Profile.
    3. Select your desired day from the Upgrade Day dropdown.

Apptio will process upgrades on the selected day or any prior date. Changing your upgrade day to an earlier date means your environment will be upgraded the next day.

Example: If your current upgrade day is Thursday and you change it to Monday on a Tuesday, your environment will be upgraded during the next upgrade window.

If an upgrade doesn’t complete on the scheduled day, it will retry the following day.

    Additional notes

    • This upgrade schedule applies to customers in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC domains (e.g., frontdoor.apptio.com, frontdoor-eu.apptio.com, frontdoor-au.apptio.com).

    • Customers in GovCloud or IRAP domains will be upgraded during scheduled Wednesday and Saturday system maintenance windows.

    • Upgrade days are environment-specific—you may choose different upgrade days for Sandbox and Main environments.

    • Regular system maintenance is performed on Wednesdays and Saturdays, separate from release upgrades. Downtime is rare and typically minimal.

Hi. We have just completed our first ITP submission with success, which is great. We're now in the process of collating feedback. One item that has been mentioned frequently, is the inclusion of stretch-to-targets that we apply in some circumstances throughout the Business. This effectively results in negative expense line items which roll up into their own specific bucket. However, the tree-chart does not seem to show negative values, so when the boxes are added up they do not come back to the total. It also creates a risk around lack of visibility. Can this be explored? Thanks, Richard @ Unilever.

Looking forward to May 9th release and being able to import data at the group level in an Open plan.
