Introducing a Technical Preview Release of the Usage Analytics UI for IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration

Usage Analytics aims to deliver visibility into entitlement usage, consumption trends, and cost transparency across hybrid integration environments. The new experience equips customers with insights to manage their usages with greater efficiency. The technical preview release gives customers chance to give IBM early feedback.

The Challenge of Representing a Complex Usage-Based Model

The IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration (IWHI) is a platform with 9+ capabilities (point products) that comes with a usage-based pricing model. The usage entitlement is prepaid and billed annually and if overused, the customer is due to pay a premium overage.

The usage-based model is based on the following billing units:

Resource unit Consumption

A resource unit (RU) is a unit of measure by which software is licensed. A customers purchase resource units’ entitlement for their subscription and then uses them over agreed billing period(annually) without any overflow. If the resource unit spend is more than the entitlement, the customer will be charged for the overage.

Resource units are used as an exchange for infrastructure(base) and usage charges. Each enabled cloud capability results in monthly charges. Within the capability, usage charges are applied to transactions created transactions.

Base (Infrastructure) charge

The base charge is a per-month charge for an enabled cloud capability in your tenant.

Usage charge

The usage charge is a charge for the number of transactions that are completed in each capability. Transactions can be API calls, integration transactions, B2B transaction, file transfer transaction or events. Transactions are also priced in resource units for preoccupied bundles of transactions per capability. For example, when you enable webMethods Integration, you pay a base charge per month plus 4 RU per 100,000 transactions, for the first 1 million transactions a year. To add scaling for the once that use more - for transactions over 1 million in the same year, the charge is 1 RU per 100,000 transactions.

The challenging goal of the Usage Analytics is to provide transparency to customers that have signed prepaid contracts with multiple metrics that deduct their entitlement in both linear and non-linear way.

New Usage Analytics Insights

The Technical Preview of Usage Analytics UI allows organizations to monitor and understand their consumption of IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration capabilities. It offers an interface supported by granular data visualizations covering entitlements, resource unit consumption, metrics usage (transactions, API calls, events, etc.) and infrastructure costs. Its main goal is to help customer stay within their entitled usage and avoid any unplanned overage costs.

Entitlement & Subscription Period Overview

Customers can now view a clear, consolidated summary of their subscription entitlements and billing period duration.

Resource Units (RU) Consumption Insights

The interface provides both high-level and granular visibility into RU consumption, including:
• Capability-level RU breakdowns
• RU consumption over selected timeframes
• Cumulative RU charts showing total usage over the billing period

Metrics Usage & Cost Transparency per Product

The new interface provides detailed metrics such as transactions, events, and API calls.
Usage metrics are automatically converted into Resource Units, giving customers end-to-end cost transparency.

Infrastructure Cost Overview for Capability Instances

Customers gain visibility into operational expenditures through clear tables showing instance costs, usage indicators, next billing dates, and per-period pricing.
