This tool will collect information from an HDS Storage System managed by the HiCommand CLI and output the ATUM compliant csv formatted Storage Device and Storage Logical data sets for upload into Apptio. This tool will work for any system managed by HiCommand such as the VSP,G1000,R700, etc...
To execute the tool, you must set up a python environment on the computer which will execute the script.
Instructions on how to do that can be found here : Setting up a Python Environment for Data Collection Tools
After Python has been installed, you can download and run the data collection tool.
Download the attached file and install the tool using pip. To do this, open a command prompt and navigate to the directory where the tool downloads, then run "pip install hds_data_collection-0.1.0.zip"
Additional Requirements:
- In addition to the requirements specified above, if you intend to use cli input_mode, the HDS HiCommand CLI must be installed on the system the Data Collection Tool will run on. The tool uses HiCommand to get information about the HDS system by running CLI commands. You can find information on Hitachi Command Suite on http://support.hds.com
Using File Mode
When using file mode, you will first capture the output of a few cli commands into separate files. Then, you will execute the script which will parse the files and generate two new csv files for upload into Apptio. To accomplish this, run the following commands and capture the output into separate files.(Note: these files can be quite large -- on the order of 150 MB uncompressed)
- GetStorageArray
- GetStorageArray subtarget=LogicalUnit
- GetStorageArray subtarget=ArrayGroup
- GetHost subtarget=LogicalUnit lusubinfo=LDEV ldevsubinfo=VLDEV
After the output has been gathered, put the files in the same directory as the data collection tool.
Run the transformation tool to produce the CSVs for upload into Apptio.
Example Usage(you must substitute the actual location and file names):
hds_data_collection.py --get_storage_array_file GetStorageArray.txt --subtarget_arraygroup_file GetStorageArraySubtargetArrayGroup --subtarget_logical_unit_file GetStorageArraySubtargetLogicalUnit
--host_info_file GetStorageArraySubtargetLogicalUnitWithHostOptions
Using CLI Mode
When using cli mode, you do not need to run the CLI commands yourself. Use the input mode option in the script to set the input mode to "cli" and also pass in the HCS path, url, and username. The script will run all of the commands above and generate the csv data sets for upload into Apptio.
Example Usage:
hds_data_collection.py --input_mode cli --hicommand_path path --hcs_url url --username username
