Db2 LUW Availability Overview

04/21/26 11:22 AM

In Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Db2 LUW), high availability (HA) refers to the ability of a database system to remain continuously accessible and operational despite hardware failures, software faults, or planned maintenance activities. The primary goal of HA in Db2 LUW is to minimize application downtime and ensure that users can continue to access data with little or no interruption. High availability focuses on rapid failure detection, fast recovery, and automatic or near-automatic takeover so that database services remain available within predefined service-level objectives, particularly recovery time objectives (RTOs). This paper outlines the multiple HA options available for Db2 LUW, detailing the features and functions of each.
