Datadrop Connector FAQ

Thu April 01, 2021 03:14 AM

Q. What customer need are we solving with the Datadrop connector?
A. Datadrop is the Apptio Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) server. Customers can push their data files to the Datadrop server and not have to worry about setting up or maintaining the server.

Q.
How different is the Datadrop connector on Datalink compared to the Datadrop connector on Datalink Classic?
A.
On Datalink, we are now bringing the ability for customers to self-provision their SFTP server. Once requested, the server will be provisioned instantaneously. In contrast, currently on Datalink Classic, customers must request the TBMA to provision an SFTP server which often takes 1-2 days.

Q.
What authentication and security mechanisms are in place for the Datadrop connector?
A.
Customers will generate a public-private key pair to provision the server and access their files. Every customer has their own public-private key pair and thus has access only to the folders which store their files.

Q. Do I need to share the private key with Apptio?
A.
No, private key should never be shared with anyone.

Q.
What is the Datadrop viewer used for?
A.
Datadrop viewer can be used to view the files present on the SFTP server. It cannot be used to transfer files to the server.

Q.
Do I need any settings to enable the Datadrop viewer?
A.
Once the SFTP server has been provisioned, any files created or transferred to the server will be immediately visible on the viewer without the need for any additional settings.

Q.
Can I remove access to a previously provisioned user?
A.
After the instance has been provisioned, the user can be deleted from the same page. Once deleted, the old username and private key can no longer be used to access the server.

Q. I have my data files present on a Datadrop server provisioned through Datalink Classic. How can I move my data to a Datadrop server provisioned via Datalink?

A.
DL classic DataDrop migration to aws is in progress. Migration will move the data and it will be reconciled. Customer can raise request if it is not reconciled even after migration.

Q.
What calendar types does the Datadrop connector support?
A.
Gregorian and Non-Gregorian

Q.
Does the Datadrop connector support R11 as a destination?
A.
No, we have support for only R12.

Q.
Can the Datadrop connector ingest data on a schedule?
A.
Yes, schedules can be setup and run on daily, weekly or monthly cadence.
