Cost Amortization Support Added to Container Cost Allocation Feature

Mon October 17, 2022 06:05 PM

Cloudability has introduced support for the amortized cost metric in the container cost allocation feature. This metric enables our customers to understand the full cost of their Kubernetes (K8s) clusters including any consumed reserved instances (RI) and savings plans (SP). Reserved instances and savings plans are popular instruments for reducing the cost of virtual machines, the key cloud resources which back K8s clusters. By switching to the amortized cost basis, users of the container feature include the full cost of consumed RIs and SPs when analyzing clusters and splitting costs via namespace, services and labels. Users can switch back the cash cost basis to represent what was actually charged in a given period.

It is worth noting that for customers with custom pricing enabled we have retained the existing behavior – both cost basis will reflect your adjusted costs.

Note: The full set of cost metrics remain available within Cloudability’s dashboards and reports. These metrics can be used with container specific reporting dimensions Cluster Name, Namespace and Labels.
