Learning paths and badges for IBM Sterling

  • 1.  Learning paths and badges for IBM Sterling

    Hello,

I'm trying to find on IBM Skills Gateway some learning path, course, certification or badge related to IBM Sterling but I just found badge related to the fundamental presencial course of B2Bi and SFG.

On this community I read in the past some announcement of course and badge for SCBN mapping specialist and CD and ICC Director but they are not currently available. In the past years there were also available one badge per IBM Sterling product and some paths like B2B Software 2018 - Technical Expert, IBM Sterling B2B Integrator - Expert - 2017 or IBM Sterling File Gateway - Expert - 2017. But none of these are available anymore.

Does anyone know if there is something available that I didn't find or if is there any plan on the brand to have again any kind to prove knowledge on IBM Sterling Supply Chain / B2B Collaboration suite?

    Regards,

    Víctor

I am have the same question. It seems that IBM outsources their training for most part and I am having hard time navigating any of it.

    Hi @Len Sasso,

We don't have any IBM SFG product trainings for users right now, but thank you for your feedback. I will pass it on to the concerned teams. In the meantime, I can try arranging for some training blog(s) on topics of interest.

    Hi @Ludmila Krieg

We don't have any technical trainings for users right now, but I'm noting your feedback. Is there a specific topic for training you're looking for?

How to write Business Processes, Email adapters, APIs, data transformation, ICC., containers (and I don't mean the sell pitch).   It is not a single topic, we are underutilizing your product due to lack of skills on the team. I wish IBM would develop comprehensive training program, like many other vendors do. We often don't know what we don't know. But the frustration with lack of training is real.

    Hi Ludmila,

Thank you for specifying some of the topics, and for your feedback. Your suggestions really help us figure out what type of content you would like to see in the community. I have passed on your feedback of developing comprehensive training program(s) to the concerned teams and will keep you posted on upcoming trainings that we schedule.

100% agree with Ludmila. We are having a very difficult time replacing our current FTP solution with Sterling. I believe we could be so much more productive with it, but we lack the knowledge. Business processes, data transformation, etc. I need to send a folder (name changes daily) with a subfolder that contains files. Can't do it with a Routing Channel. I bet I could with a Business process. Every Business process I've tried to write has failed to run, no errors are generated. I assume there is a log file somewhere that would shed light on the error, but I don't know where that log is.
Classroom training is probably out for us, but technical docs, videos, something. Right now there is nothing.

Dana, I am glad this conversation is happening, even on such a limited scale. I am sure you and are not alone. I feel that IBM's approach to selling professional services instead of technical education is not a very good one  for us. Yes, they outsource the education, but now I have to vent all those vendors to see if they, in fact, will do the comprehensive training or try to sell more professional services to do build for you (a lot of them do both). Every major vendor I worked with before would have a guided training. They tell you what products can do and how and keep re-educating with every new functionality added.  They don't ask, what do you want to know.
With technology changing so fast, we can't replace our stuff with every new product, new technology turn. I hope IBM will consider training more seriously. In the end, the focus on "customers wanting to buy their product" instead of on "selling us their product" might prove to be a better one.

    Hi @Dana Jenner

That is indeed good and detailed feedback. I'm afraid we don't have a lot of resources available right now but I can assure you that there is a team working on training material for some of the IBM Sterling offering areas. I have been passing on your valuable feedback to them.

For now, we have the following trainings available on the IBM Training portal:

For B2B Collab, we have the following courses in https://www.ibm.com/training
    • IBM Sterling B2B Integrator Fundamentals - 6F87G
    • IBM Sterling File Gateway Managing Sterling File Gateway - 6F86G
    • IBM Sterling B2B Integrator Administration and Tuning v5.2.6.1 - 6F89G
    • IBM Sterling Connect Direct for Windows V4.7 Fundamentals - 6C03G
    • IBM Control Center V6.1 Overview - DLP-DL25070G
    • Control Center Director including Hands on Lab - DLP-SR004531
Please note, except for the last two all others are instructor led courses offered by our training partners.

I'm not sure if these are useful - this is what we have right now on the IBM Sterling side. I will be sure to inform everybody on this thread when we have more training material that our users and Business Partners can leverage.

Do you think these might be useful for you @Ludmila Krieg @Victor Bonilla Palencia @Len Sasso ?

    Hello Tanvi,

Thanks, I didn't know the last two. Regarding the first ones... in my case I already have those in mind and I was looking for some way to verify with my clients that we have the knowledge related to the platform. Something like the previous badges more than an specific training from IBM.

Thanks Victor for adding me to this thread. Yes, there is a team working on building out the materials as Tanvi rightly mentioned. Please share any specific areas of the portfolio where you are looking for immediate ramp up of skills so we can share the resources that can be used.

If this is about adding badges/certs that help attain PartnerWorld competencies, then there is only a limited set of those available for Sterling Supply Chain and B2B Collaboration assets.

    Thanks

    Hi Victor,

Thanks for reaching out! If you're a business partner, there are some trainings on Seismic that you can have a look at. For sales enablement training (including tech sales), we do have some specific courses available for Sterling partners. I will share the links with you.

Thanks Tanvi, I've been looking to the materials and I found them interesting but they are oriented to sales and presales resources. Do you have something for the technical team? As mentioned I'm looking for something like previous badges that were oriented to our consultants and to show their skills with clients.

I need to add CRLF to the end of every record of a file being sent, via IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for z/OS (Version 05, Release 002), from an IBM Mainframe to Sterling File Gateway (SFG, Version 6.0), then SFG sends the file to a Windows Platform for processing.

Please Note: The file was originally being sent, via IBM FTP (with the ASCII Parameter), to the Windows Platform for processing.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

You might have to use custom protocol and use either map or a script to add CRLF.

In v6.0.1 SFG providing a new feature called file operations, in which there's an operation Unix2Dos which adds CRLF at the end of every line.

    Hi Len,

I hope this support note should help you. Consider the SFG as Connect Direct for Windows.

How to use the codepage function when sending data from Connect:Direct z/OS to Connect:Direct for Windows

You may also go through following informative links:
    1. How to transfer a dataset from Connect:Direct z/OS to SFG/B2Bi and translate the file contents from EBCDIC to UTF-8
    2. What code page does Connect:Direct use for ASCII-to-EBCDIC or EBCDIC-to-ASCII translation?
    3. How to transfer file as text from Sterling Connect:Direct z/OS to Sterling Connect:Direct Windows & convert to UTF-16
    4. How to convert a file from Connect:Direct z/OS, EBCDIC, to Connect:Direct Windows, ASCII, in Simplified Chinese.
    5. Copying a file with codepage conversion from IBM Sterling B2B Integrator to Connect:Direct on system z results in corrupted data

    Hi,

I am also very interested in certification on the following products :

    1. IBM SFG (File Gateway)
    2. IBM SSP (Secure Proxy)
    3. IBM ICC (Control Center)

I am already Connect:Direct Administrator certified, however I cannot find a certification for either of the above mentioned products. I have all the badges, however it is not the same as a professional certification. There is no way for me (or any other IBM Sterling engineer) to promote our skills without a certification, which really puts a damper on career progression for us as techies...
