How to save time managing your MFT environment

By Savar Sareen posted Mon November 18, 2019 12:00 AM

Maintaining your managed file transfer (MFT) environment is easy when you only have one or two servers. But when you have multiple nodes and limited resources – the situation most IT professionals face – maintenance becomes much more challenging! Whether you have 10 or 10,000 nodes, it is difficult, costly and complex to manage all those nodes manually in a timely manner.

To address this challenge I’m excited to tell you about our new IBM Sterling Control Center Director – an easier way for IBM Sterling Connect:Direct users to manage their MFT environments remotely.

3 ways to save time with IBM Sterling Control Center Director
Just as IBM Sterling Control Center lets you monitor all file transfer activity and processes in one place, Sterling Control Center Director allows you to manage, configure and update your MFT servers – from a single, user-friendly console in real time [see Figure 1]. You no longer need to worry about manually logging in to individual nodes to keep up with security patches. Free up your team to do work on other important tasks.

Sterling Control Center Director saves time and makes your life easier in three essential ways.

  1. Operate your MFT environment with efficiency. Logging into each server to deploy updates, apply security patches or configure nodes is a thing of the past. Instead, schedule the activity as a job to occur during a pre-defined maintenance window or non-essential business hours. The intuitive UI makes it easy for any user to monitor the status of these jobs and track which are complete. If something unexpected comes up, put the job on hold to avoid conflicts, all from a central console.
  2. Govern with confidence. With near real-time visibility and control across all your servers, you always know what’s in your MFT environment and can verify licenses, versions, security updates and configurations. There’s no need to spend hours responding to and passing audits.
  3. Scale to the enterprise. Deploy Sterling Connect:Direct wherever you need it without adding resources or compromising control. Create server groups for even easier management and update entire groups with a single job.
