This demo shows how to use Spectrum Protect Plus (SPP) v10.1.7.1 to backup and recover OpenShift cluster PVCs and resources.

The demo environment uses Red Hat operator OpenShift Container Storage (OCS), Community operator OpenShift APIs for Data Protection (OADP), IBM operator SPP server, and IBM Container Backup Support (BaaS) all installed on OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.5. The SPP server is installed only on the first OCP 4.5 cluster and the Container Backup Support (BaaS) component is installed on both OCP 4.5 clusters as well as OCS and OADP. The SPP server component could have alternatively been installed on a VM outside of OCP for similar capability.

In this demo Annette Clewett uses a WordPress application running in OpenShift to first demo the on-demand snapshot backup of both PVCs and resources. This starts by setting up a SLA using the SPP console to do both local snapshots and copies to the SPP vSnap of PVCs and resources. She then restores from the OCS snapshot of just the PVCs emulating recovery from a loss of data in the WordPress application.

She then does an on-demand copy of the PVCs and resources from the OCS snapshots to the SPP vSnap and shows a restore from the SPP vSnap copy of both the PVCs and resources to the second cluster emulating the cloning of the WordPress application to an alternate cluster.
