  • 1.  In a SPP environment how would I protect the remainder of the Physical/Bare Metal  server?

    Posted Tue August 28, 2018 06:19 PM

I attended the recent Transform Data Protection for Next Gen Workload webcast and would like to know:

At the end of the presentation the presenter confirmed for me that SPP is application aware for SQL, Oracle and DB2 in both the Physical (Bare Metal) and VM environments. I realise that it also 'backs up' Virtual Machines.

In a SPP environment how would I protect the remainder of the Physical/Bare Metal  server?

    Thanks,

There is no difference in establishing a schedule (SLA) to back up physical vs virtual machine hosted databases.  Perhaps this area of the Spectrum Protect Plus documentation would help answer more detailed questions.

    Here's the section about SQL

    And Oracle:

Any database that SPP supports and the ones we add in future will work on both virtual and Physical/Bare Metal servers. For the ones SPP doesn't support yet, Spectrum Protect is the right solution.

The overview of what IBM Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus  (SPP) can do is discussed under a blog posted on August 13, 2018 by Eric Herzog. IT has discussed several scenarios. It has useful links to various other articles and hope you find them useful to address some of the questions you have
