    Hi All,

    All of sudden one of my 2 backup started failing with failed 12, once i checked on the log it's not able to take system state backup and why it's failing because it's not able to delete old snapshot.

    any advise is highly appreciated.

    Hi Prem,
    your problem is described in detail on the IBM support websites with diagnosis and solution.

    Probably another application has changed the VSS Writer configuration.

    Please try the described procedures and tell us if it works after that.

    Hi Prem,
    it's difficult to say without the Windows and TSM logs.
    There is a Microsoft article about a similar issue:

    Or - if you didn't do that already - boot the system. This fixes in many cases problems with the VSS.

    Hi Prem,
    did you boot the system? In most cases the problem with the VSS writer is gone after reboot.

    I have rebooted twice however one more client also started failing backup because of that not sure what will be the next step in these cases.

    Hi,

    Please look in windows event viewer when backup starts to run. That may give some clues.

    Did you get ant clues from the dsmerror.log (or other logs)

    Keep in mind, most vss errors are detected by SP, not caused by SP.  You should involve people from your windows os team to resolve these errors.
