  • 1.  Does the 3 year Expert Care Basic for FS5200 includes GTMS or Firmware upgrade

    Dear Community Members,

     

    Hope you are all good.

     

    I have an ambiguity regarding Newly Announced IBM Flash System 5200. When we configure the storage in econfigurator cloud, for base hardware warranty & support we need to add:

    • "4663-B03  3 year Expert Care Basic for FS5200"/ 5773-STG  Support Line for Storage - 3 Year
    • ALH0  Expert Care Indicator                                   
    • ALJ3  EC Basic 3 Year

     

    Which is to ensure Hardware Maintenance Support with next business day onsite response. I want to clarify that does this support include GTMS OR any support feature for firmware upgrade ?

    Hello Khurram,

    GTMS (Global Total Microcode Support) is not part of Expert Care for IBM FlashSystem 5200.
    It is rather an individual offering by IBM TSS (Technology Support Services).
    For details on Expert Care see Announcement Letter ZS21-0010 .
    However, it does entitle the client to download firmware updates from IBM FixCentral.

    I checked the announcement letter on the url you mentioned but I am unable to find the entitlement to download the firmware is mentioned. Is this entitlement the part of Storage Base software SWMA ?

    Hi Khurram, 
    the IBM FlashSystem 5200 is a LIC (Licensed Internal Code) machine, i.e. no SWMA available for it.
    Entitlement to download updates is granted by purchasing Expert Care. In fact this is not clearly mentioned in the Expert Care announcement letter I had referenced.
    A hint is given in the FS5200 Hardware Announcement Letter ZG21-0005 in the section Terms & Conditions:
    IBM Storage Expert Care Basic
      • Available in 1-5 years
      • IBM On-Site Repair, 9x5 Next Business Day
      • Licensed Machine Code Subscription and Support
    As Roger had mentioned, a service to apply code updates is not part of Expert Care.
