  • 1.  Asistance with v7000 initial config

    Hi,

    Just purchased an old v7000 Gen1 and am struggling to configure it.

    So far based on what I have learned, the unit was part of a cluster and the password reset enabled is set to no.

    Do I first need to resolve not being part of a cluster issue which will make the unit active and then I can use the USB flash drive InitTool to reset IP and password?

    If so, how does one do that if the initTool.exe is ignored until the unit is active?

    Any advise would be very much appreciated...

    Hi Geoff,

    If the pwreset feature is disabled you might have a problem...

    You can insert an empty USB key in the  back of one of the controllers, leave it for about 1 minute and it reports back a lot of information in a  file called sainfo_result.html. You will get all configured IP addresses, serial numbers, cluster name and.. a line with "password_reset_enabled xxx".
    If it says yes you can simpy create a file called satask.txt with only one line in it saying "satask resetpassword"
    It will become the default password "passw0rd".
    Then you can erase the nodes one by one using the clear procedure and both nodes will become candidates again.
    Next you can create a cluster using the same USB key with the mkcluster command. This is the same as using the inittool.

    Yes, I followed your kind recommendation but unfortunately the previous owner of the unit remove all the details except for removing it from the cluster and setting password_reset_enabled back to yes. (sainfo_result is attached).

    Looks like the unit is unusable to anyone as we purchase unit at an auction.

    Geoff,

    Sorry to say: You have a nice paperweight, spare parts and spare disks. Not sure how to reset this, as the documentation states you need the superuser password.  You can at least connect to it using ssh at the listed IP address and try some default passwords.
    Or you can try the access the service console at: https://10.10.2.70/service ; still need the password though...
    Furthermore I would ask (again) your supplier for the password... or return it.

    I am not sure what commands are available through satask.txt (as not all are) but you could try to set an ssh key?

    Many thanks for your kind response.

    We have now progressed, Enrique's responses pointed us in the right direction.

    We worked out what we were doing wrong, we were trying to run satask command on the same USB as the initTool.exe and nothing was working, then based on Enrique responses we figured out to run command on standalone blank USB and voila....

    maybe you could try

    leave it for about 2 minute and it reports back a lot of information in a file called sainfo_result.html.
    look in this file if the status changed (password_reset_enabled yes). If so, then you can apply the indicated reset password task with another satask.txt file.
