Hi Rodolpho - There is not much information in your post so I will try to provide some generic info.  I am assuming you are interested in upgrading the controller firmware:

    1. Choose your target firmware stream.  Usually this is done based on the required features which can be done using the readme files.  Once you choose the stream (7.7.1 or 7.8.1...) the normal recommendation is to use the latest PTF level within that stream.  For example I think the the latest PTF in the 7.7.1 stream is  7.7.1.6.

    2. Now use this link to determine if you can do the upgrade in one step or if you have to make multiple hops. https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=591&uid=ssg1S1003705

    3. You can check compatibility with your other components using SSIC:

    https://www-304.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss

    4. Here is a link to the knowledge center article on upgrading code, also follow the instructions in the readme file at came with your code:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ST3FR7_7.8.0/com.ibm.storwize.v7000.780.doc/svc_upgradecli_25eisl.html

Here is a link to an upgrade checklist:

    https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1004067

    A few miscellaneous items:

    - Make sure you run the latest Software Update Test Utility.  This will check the system to make sure you are ready to upgrade.

-You may need to update drive firmware.

If you want to talk I would be happy to discuss with you

    Hi Rodolfo,

I do have a document I prepared for upgrading our V7000 Unified a year or so ago, its a 78 page word document. It does contain sections you don't need on Unified, TSM, HSM and antivirus, but will give you an idea of what you need to check. I can share if you are interested.

    Hi,

I have shared a box link with you.

Seems there was also this pre-flight check. We did the upgrade on a Saturday.

    Pre-Saturday checks
    Description
    1. Checks: Fabric switch compatibility matrix - Confirmed at supported level
    2. Checks: HSM shutdown procedure on
    v7000
    3. Checks: TSM shutdown procedure on
    v7000
    4. Prepare USB key
    5. Run Update test Friday lunchtime
    6. N/A
    7. Upload Drive firmware to v7000
    8. Checks: Applications known to run over the weekend are not going to run
    9. Checks: times of apps that need to run maintenance:
    10. Schedule: skip backup on Friday if it over runs into work window
    11. Support Availability: of third parties - backup service
    12. Confirm with service managers on Friday
    work going ahead.
    13. Confirm shutdown/startup processes.
    14. Confirm application shutdown/startup procedure
    15. Confirm commands to remount drives in applications
    16. Copy all documents required for the work to other locations including third party contacts

Since this, we now always use a 'slack' channel to keep all parties up to date on progress.

Paul this is very awesome - thank you! I like the idea of using Slack to keep the team updated. We use Skype for business but I think I will implement the same type of communication.

You are welcome. Let me/ community know how it goes.

Also there is a phrase you can use with IBM support, that means they already have a support call open for your upgrade, I am afraid I cant remember what it is though.

Start early in the day, if you need IBM help, it takes time to become available on the weekend.

The V7000 upgrade always went well for us, it was the Unified part that went wrong each time.
