Cyber Security in the Healthcare Industry- Challenges and Trends

Tue March 16, 2021 10:46 AM

Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, healthcare institutions recognized the need to modernize legacy systems and operations to better serve their communities. However, the pandemic created an inflection point and the shift to digital became a necessity, to ensure delivery of care in the home and away from traditional health and care settings. This transformation in care and the move to have more people working at home, needs to be done safely and securely.

Cybersecurity for healthcare is a complex issue, and healthcare is a target for attacks both direct and in-direct. In an environment of growing demands and limited resources, the health organizations need to transform their cybersecurity systems because cyber threats aren’t just an IT risk, they endanger patient-facing services that can affect clinical safety and the ability to deliver timely care to patients. This is ever more important as we move digitally and provide care in different ways – as COVID-19 has driven.

Join us in our panel discussion with NHS Digital to find out what was NHS Digital’s response to the pandemic, from the Data Security Center to the vaccination programme, and to talk about challenges that healthcare will experience over coming months/years and the support that IBM can deliver in this space.
