IBM i2 iBase - Icons not showing on iBase 9.0.2

  • 1.  IBM i2 iBase - Icons not showing on iBase 9.0.2

    Posted 20 days ago

    Hello everyone.
My post will in two parts, the first part will state the context of the issue and my question to the community and the second part will be what we have done so far to rectify the problem or try to rectify.

Be aware those environments are in French

    Part 1:

One of our clients has two VM where users accessed them via an RDP.  Those two VM are identical, however, due to the nature of their work, analysts cannot share their data with the other group, hence two separate VM.

Analyst's Notebook 9.2.3, iBase 9.0.2 (with Designer) and Chart Readers 9.2.3 were installed on each, with the command line, the switch to the PAM and with the French language selection during the install.

Their IDS and IDB file were also re-configured to the new SQL server (2019).

Upon opening it for the first time this past Monday (29 Mars 2021) in PROD, it was brought to our attention that the icons that were assigned to some entities were not displayed within the iBase Explorer window.  Furthermore, the date setting, instead of displaying the proper date of birth, as an example, inside a browsing definition, it was displayed as: YYYY-01-DD instead of 1962-01-24

    My question:

Can the language pack installed at the creation of each VM could play a role to some settings within iBase?

    Part 2:

What we have done and found so far.

    1. The iconlist located inside this folder: C:\ProgramData\i2\i2 iBase 8\fr\Configuration which provides the list, in French, of all the icons to be used in iBase are written in French with an accent depending on the word of course. We discovered that in iBase designer, these icons were displayed properly. However, in iBase, they were shown with a blank circle. As an example: Téléphone is shown with a blank circle, Évênement is also shown as a blank circle within iBase.
      1. To rectify the issue, we, simply saved the icon list with a new name, assigned that new list to iBase, close iBase Designer and iBase, re-openned them and assigned the new name without the accent. As an example: Téléphone is now Telephone and so on....  Once we re-opened iBase the icons were displayed properly.  This is cheating the system.
      2. We then took it one more step by uninstalling iBase and reinstalling it with the command line and the switch ADD LANGUAGE=FR and the switch for the PAM. We came up with the same issue.
    2. For the date setting (see Part 1 context), we installed the French (France) language pack and reset the VM. The date in the regional setting were shown as: AAAA-MM-jj, (which is Année-Mois-Jour) or (Year-Mont-Day in french) but to no avail as we all know, iBase draw is regional setting from the machine is running it from and had the same results as explained in the context paragraph.
      1. We did the same thing for the French Canada language pack, but yet again to no avail.
      2. We then ran some test and discovered that the VM were originally mounted with an English Language (US Pack) and changed for a French Pack on top of it.

As you can see, my question but the answer must be a certainty.

Does the original Language pack Windows Server or otherwise can skew some setting in iBase such as reading the icons wrong and making faulty date setting if the environment is later changed to French instead of the original language pack?

If you require additional information or screenshot, please advise.

Thank you all and I hope it was clear enough to understand the issues at hand.  It is URGENT as this client rely heavily on their each iBase database.
