Ibase Schedular + Batch Import/Export

    Hello.

I have been having difficulty using Ibase Scheduler to perform automatic batch imports and exports and I need help.

The idea is to have a folder on my computer with .xls files, in which using Ibase Scheduler and batch import specifications, the data would be imported into the database.

However, I am not able to perform this functionality.

I would like to know if anyone could show a way or example of putting this functionality to use.

    Thanks

    Hi Paulo

I htink we need a bit more info about what stage you are at. So:

    1) I assume you have made a batch import specification and that you know it works (ie if you click run - it does what you expect)?
    2) I assume you have used the Scheduler to set up a schedule - are you saying it just doesn't run?
    3) Have you checked that the i2 iBase 8 Scheduler service is running (its a windows service)

If the answer to all above is yes - I suspect its down to your SQL privilege's on the SQL Database (assuming its SQL) - or some network permissions thing. The iBase Administration Centre is usually pretty good at sorting these things out (sadly I am not!)

I hope the above is of some help, if nothing else to at least get information for others to help a bit more

    Cheers, Mark

    Hello.

    Thanks for your response.

The steps I took were as follows:

    1 - I created an import specification
    2 - I created a batch import specification based on 1
3 - I opened Ibase Scheduler and connected to the database, tested the connection and it was ok
4 - I created an Import Task where I chose the batch import specification
5 - I created the Triguer for that task (I tested several, for example changing the file or on a date / time.

RESULT: If the document was changed, the import did not occur, or if the date / time established in Ibase Scheduler was reached, the import did not occur either.

In Ibase Scheduler, when clicking on RUN, it imports, so I deduce that this part is working.

Regarding to check if the i2 iBase 8 Scheduler service is running (as you said it is a windows service) here I don't know how to see it anymore.

Another question of mine is how does the program know where the files to import are?

How the program knows, for an import, where is the file to import data?

In other words, do I have to have a folder with the files containing the import data, if so, where to put them?

Does Ibase Scheduler work with Ibase in SQL and ACCESS?

The database is running im my computer in SQL, and i am the administrator of the computer and the SQL server

I would appreciate all your help

    Thanks

    Hi

    In answer to your questions:

Regarding to check if the i2 iBase 8 Scheduler service is running (as you said it is a windows service) here I don't know how to see it anymore.

You need to go to Control Panel and search for service you will see an option to view local services. That should have the i2 iBase Scheduler Service in it. Check it is running.

Another question of mine is how does the program know where the files to import are?
That information is held in your import specification - so you have to make sure you use the same file name and folder or it won;t be able to find it

How the program knows, for an import, where is the file to import data?
    As above

In other words, do I have to have a folder with the files containing the import data, if so, where to put them?
    As above

Does Ibase Scheduler work with Ibase in SQL and ACCESS?
Yup I believe so - you could try testing with a test access database to see if that works - if it does then it suggests a SQL Server permissions issue?

The database is running im my computer in SQL, and i am the administrator of the computer and the SQL server

    Thanks for the quick response.

I already realized how the program knows where the import or export documents are based on the import / export specifications

I have already seen that Ibase Scheduer is running as a windows service and is automatic.

It just needs to work ... but I still couldn't ... something must be missing here ...

    Hiya

OK - I think you know as much as me then! I have one more idea so will look into that - I may try for IBM i2's help as it is something I need to fix on one of my databases (whereas the other one is working fine). I think it'll be a SQL Server permissions thing!

I tried it again, but this time what I changed was the format of the import file, that is, the import file I was using was .xls, but meanwhile I converted it to .txt.

I don't know why, but in this format, Ibase Scheduler performed the import on the date and time I defined to import.

For now it works well ...
