During the event Threat Intelligence: Are You Ready to take on Today's Threat Actors? I've heard about career changes of other powerful women, but I have a story of my own. In my high school I have dreamed about working in IT and being a Hacker was something really cool. I have a masters degree in Economics and Bachelor in Marketing and Management (studies both at the same time). I always dreamed about Computer Science, but felt that it is a Man filled world and it would be very hard for me, because I am not as good at math as boys are - at least this is what the society made me think. I then worked for 8 years for the Regional Government in my city in Eastern Poland, which was a difficult experience as I felt like I am not living my own life. During my 7th year there I asked for a unpaid vacation to clear my head, went abroad to Amsterdam/NL and fell in love with this city and country. Went back to Poland, because of unfinished business there (Drivers license) and started thinking what do I love, what I want to do in my life and then found Software Testing which felt perfect for me as at my Government work I had to assess projects during EU funding contests and when I've found that something is not right and according to the documentation I felt the rush and happiness. So really I was Testing before without knowing it. I then got certified with the ISTQB exam, started my Computes Science studies and got my first Software Testing job. After 2 years of Testing in Poland I've decided to move to the Netherlands and this is how I have ended up as a QA/Test Engineer at Basic-Fit. Last year then the COVID craze started I've found out that I have breast cancer and it was really a wake up call that life is short and I should follow my Cybersecurity dream. So I have decided to get certified with CompTIA Security + and PenTest + this year and CEH AND OSCP Pen-200 next year and learn all those real pentesting skills. I have Hacked the Box and started doing small exercises at TryHackMe and started sending my CV to jobs searching for one where I could learn by doing, because my determination is definitely there. So, there were a lot of changes in my life and I have learned that nothing is set in stone in your life and you should live in the now more and appreciate what you have and also not be afraid to go after the thing you want most! Thank you, this meetup was really educational and interesting!
