Mobile app issue

  • 1.  Mobile app issue

    Hi, new to the group and have a quick question.  I'm an enterprise user of the maas360 mobile app on iPhone for exchange and it used to let you use voice to text.  It still does but stops after 3 words and then the cursor moves back to the front of the sentence.  Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there a solution?  Thanks!

    Changes were made in iOS 13 that impacted how applications leverage dictation on devices.  Our dev teams are currently working with Apple engineers on a resolution, but I do not have an ETA that I can provide at this time.

    Hi Matt,

    Any new updates on this issue? Iphone works fine with Hotmail app, Gmail app and Iphone generic Mail App. I see an update was performed to MaaS360 with no resolution for the dictation problem. This is almost a month old issue. Thank you.

    The most recent app release had already been in the pipeline before the issue had been identified.  We're actively working on the fix and I hope to have an update to our app release page shortly

    Hi Matt,

    Opening the ticket with IBM and after the update to the MaaS360 app does not fix the dictation issue for IPhones when the user tries to dictate a message and the app crashes.

    Hi Matt,

    Thank you for keeping track of this thread. I was glad to find an actual thread highlighting this issue.

    I am having the same issue. It was a big boost to productivity when voice to text was enabled. Based on Yasmiell's last note below, it looks like the issue is persisting. Any updates?

    Unfortunately I do not at this time.  We have escalated to the highest tier of management, but there were some security patches that had to be prioritized first.  I'm hoping to be able to drop an update with a tentative release window in this thread fairly soon.

    Yes, I do have an update - apologies on the delay, I was trying to reach out to as many individuals as I could.

    Apple announced a while back that they are deprecating a development feature called UIWebView.  This is something we've known was coming for a while, and have been in the midst implementing their recommended changes.  What kind of caught us off-guard is that in iOS 13 keyboard dictation would no longer be supported without the newer updates for this feature deprecation.  Due to the large number of features that need to be migrated off UIWebView, including many of our apps - Editor, VPN, mail, etc - there is a lot of work that needs to be done. 

    Due to the amount of work required, and the amount of time that we'll need to QA this, the earliest we could push up the changes was for our 3.98 release in early April (with a beta starting in mid-March).  I know this isn't ideal, but given what has to go in to this, it would be much more detrimental if we rushed it and potentially impacted something much larger negatively.

    We'll be putting out a statement in the portal in the next week or so.

    Thank you for your response to this issue. Many vendors are not as responsive to their customers concerns. We appreciate that you provided a timeline for release as this is really becoming a big issue for our end users.

    The beta release for the fix version (iOS app 3.98) will be available in the first week of March with plans for a GA release in early April.

    Is there an update on this?  This is taking far too long to add simple voice dictation back into the app. Have you asked Watson for help?

    Thanks to Matt Shaver. Such desired update has finally arrived to fix dictation problem (V 3.98) I can confirm dictation to text works again. It took forever but the good news is this functionality is back. Thanks to Matt and to IBM developers.
