What happens with Remove Control on a Windows computer, exactly? Is anything MaaS360-related left behind on the computer? Does using the Remove Control action uninstall MaaS360 on a Windows computer?

    Hi Niki,

It depends on the enrollment used

If the enrollment is using our agent only (Windows 7,8,10) then there will be artifacts left behind, most of which can be removed by uninstalling MaaS360 in the system preferences.

If the enrollment is using the embedded MDM features (Windows 10 only) then all the MaaS360 information should be deleted on control removal, unless a specific app distribution is explicitly marked to leave the app on the device even if control is removed.

    Thank you!
I am dealing with Windows 7, for now. These machines are personally-owned. Would it be better to simply instruct users to use Add/Remove programs or is there some greater benefit to using Remove Control from the MaaS360 admin portal?

I always suggest removing control from the portal just so the portal device record properly notes that it is no longer enrolled.  Oftentimes if the user removes MaaS360 before this action, the portal won't recognize it is no longer enrolled, and the device record will remain as a billable device.

What steps should I take in the MaaS360 Admin portal to make a Windows computer inactive and prevent the device record from remaining as a billable device? I have personally-owned computers where the owners have disposed of the computers but MaaS360 was not removed prior to the computers' disposal.

    Hi Niki,

I would first issue the remove control action (just as a precaution) then simply issue a "Hide" action to the device record.  That will remove it from the inventory count.
