IBM Security Discontinues the Inclusion of the BigFix Agent Within the MaaS360 Suite of Offerings

Recently, IBM entered into an agreement to divest its rights to the BigFix software and brand to HCL.

Based on the terms of the divestiture, MaaS360 will no longer provide patch and update distribution for Windows and macOS.

While this is a change to the current environment, MaaS360 will continue to deliver a robust set of modern management functionalities, providing IBM customers extensive and reliable visibility, manageability, security, and service.

MaaS360 will continue to provide comprehensive enterprise capabilities to manage and secure macOS, Windows laptops and desktops, and Windows Mixed Reality through the entire lifecycle from enrollment to configuration, security, software distribution, support, and decommissioning.  MaaS360 will continue to deliver the following:

  • Display outstanding patches & updates relevant to specific PCs and Macs
  • Windows 10 Update Management via APIs
  • Provide Windows 10 P2P file sharing for patches via Delivery Optimization
  • Windows 7 Patching via Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) settings
  • Distribute and install applications/payloads via the Universal Application Catalog
      •  Includes: .msi, .exe, .appx, .reg, .bat, .cmd, .ps1, .py, .vbs
  • Enforce policy & compliance rules, tying into Azure AD/Office 365 for conditional access

Recognized by Gartner, Forrester, IDC, EMA, and Ovum as a unified endpoint management industry leader, MaaS360 will continue to evolve as modern management techniques surpass client/agent-based management. MaaS360 will either develop new functions or partner with a CMT to benefit customers as they make their transition to modern management.

If you are an IBM client with an active service contract and applicable parts, your organization will continue to receive support through the duration of your contract term. At the end of your contract term, the parts will not be available for renewal, and applicable patch and update management functions will be disabled via the MaaS360 portal under Services.

The aforementioned modern management capabilities delivered via MaaS360 UEM will take the place of BigFix Patch and Update Management for all net-new sales and renewals.

If you are currently using granular patch functions for PC and Mac, please contact your Account Manager to discuss next steps.
