Best practices for HIPAA-compliant encryption of multiple .sav files without individual passwords?

We are looking for recommendations on the best way to handle HIPAA-compliant data security for a large volume of SPSS .sav files containing protected health information (PHI).

While we know we can encrypt individual files via SPSS syntax or menus, manually managing unique passwords for hundreds of files is not a scalable solution for our team. We need a workflow that guarantees encryption at rest and in transit, but avoids adding individual password friction for our analysts.

Because we are working with PHI, we need to ensure our solution stands up to audit requirements. Has anyone successfully implemented an enterprise or automated workaround?

How does your organization protect sensitive healthcare data files without drowning users in passwords? Any advice, architectural patterns, or pitfalls to avoid would be incredibly helpful!
