Greetings, There are of course many things that can affect throughput. CPU and RAM are two of those of course. Another is the number of disk arms and paths to those arms. If the system has insufficient resources to get data from disk it will consequently back up more slowly. So that's 1. Then ...

In a past life when I was a developer I used this journaling capability to capture source changes. As you describe the full source member is written every time providing a fully copy of the source after every save. There are any number of situations where this is useful and even though it generates 'lots ...

I find myself agreeing with Diego! In this discussion I read about backing up to various things be that NFS and FTP and 'IP Services'. I also note that some of the backups are parked on Windows. And I get the heebie jeebies!! Why? Backups aren't just done to check off the box: "Do you have ...

Frank, One of the key things you mention here is VIOS redundancy. We can all agree that redundancy is indeed a good thing. However if you are using internal disk then redundancy is effectively off the table because VIOS must 'own' the disk in order to share it. In theory you could use two VIOS servers ...

Frank, I would like to see your reasoning for why VIOS is a better solution IN THIS CASE. I have an entire presentation that pits the pros and cons of VIOS hosting with IBM i hosting. It is not meant to prove one or the other is better but to use as a scorecard to determine in any given situation ...

Frank, I would say that Rochester not recommending VIOS is perhaps a bit strong. Certainly an alternative for IBM i customers is to use IBM i hosting in this environment. It removes the need to know VIOS and focuses on the strength of IBM i. For customers who do not want external storage ...

Let's see if I grasped your presentation (After all we are separated by a common language!) NVMe are faster. NVMe are cheaper. Question: Can I replace a failed NVMe without having to power down the server or restart the Operating system? Observation: I was rather surprised that RAID6 ...

You, like me, ignore the 'needs two blokes' indication and unpack it by myself. Also interesting to me that it was a tower unit and as such a bit different packaging. Also the rack mount critters come with lifting handles which are very nice. Note the Anti-Static wrist band for when you are ...
