Hi,
- are they specific to an HMC (i.e. two HMCs managing the same frame use different UUIDs) or stored in the system (i.e. both HMCs get the UUIDs from the system)?
> Lpar UUIDs are unique; and related to the lpar / VM itself; so if you have 2 HMCs connected; both show the same value. You can check this from HMC CLI with command: lssyscfg -r lpar -m <MyFrame> -Fuuid,name
- after an LPM, does the LPAR keep the same UUID, or does it get a new UUID on the destination system?
> The UUID remains the same in LPM ; and afaik also in SRR (Simplified remote restart). For LKU (Live Update) ; some years back it was so that the new profile had different UUID until the 1st reboot...but I assume that has been changed / fixed also..
We are using UUID as unique identifier in cmdb inventory / mappings as well ;)

Subject: Nature of UUIDs
Hi,
I have two questions regarding System/LPAR/profiles UUIDs:
- are they specific to an HMC (i.e. two HMCs managing the same frame use different UUIDs) or stored in the system (i.e. both HMCs get the UUIDs from the system)?
- after an LPM, does the LPAR keep the same UUID, or does it get a new UUID on the destination system?
I'm asking this, because from a CMDB/Inventory point of view it has different workflow/reconciliation implications.
