    Hi,
We are running PowerVC Version: 1.4.4.2 and on one of the frame having issues adding volume to a VM (on other frames I can add volumes to the VM's).
Below is the error. VIOS from that frame show no RMC connection, HMC is showing RMC connection active. Attached is the screen shot.

    Hi,

Are your frames visible for 1 or 2 HMCs? We have dual HMC setup, and sometimes RMC seems to be active only via 1 HMC...and if that is not your primary HMC from PowerVC point of view ...it will lead into situation U described.

In case U have just one HMC...there might be some temporary connection issue between PowerVC & HMC; 1st thing I'd try is restarting PowerVC services.

And please check also Configuration > Fibre Channel Port Configuration that U have free NPIV ports available in your VIOSes

    Hi Tommi
Restarting PowerVC services did not help. The reason we have free NPIV ports is that we are using one port on each card for disk mapping. second ports on each cared is not cabled up. This setup is on all frames and only VIOS from this one frame is reporting this issue. On rest of the frames I can attach disk, deploy VM. etc.
    Thanks

    Hello Rizwan

Assuming there is not a RMC issue, usually this link can help you:
RMC communication to VIOS is busy or timed out

Sometimes this type of error, we primary fixed with VIOS and PowerVC fixes. But, trust me, with the current VIOS levels supported pay attention to have a correct TCPIP configuration (dns, hostname entries, resolv.conf, etc).
When Using HMC GUI you see message "Unable to connect to the Database Error occurred "
Why do i receive a timeout message when querying VIOS resources from HMC ?

Always is important the best fix level on the solution, of course, conserving the compatibility: PowerVC 1.4.4-HMC 9.x-VIOS 3.x-E980 Power System Firmware

    Best Regards
