According to the Oracle DBA the install is the 'restart' option, another instance will be installed on the second server so we will need to configure the cluster to mutually failover.

AIX is at 7.1.3.3 running on a Power Express 520 using Power6 processors, memory is currently 32GB but will be upgraded to 64GB with an additional 4 port Ethernet card. The specification of the failover server will be exactly the same.

You do generally need to install the binaries on each node in the cluster. My experience has been with customers in my benchmark days, which may be dated now, was that the rootpre.sh script is borderline even useful. The installation when it detects PowerHA automatically installs RAC w/o prompting you otherwise and requires post install changes to correct. I always had the luxury of a couple top notch IBM ATS Oracle folks to do this for me.

I have a demo, though it shows 11.2 (non-RAC) and SVC replication with PowerHA EE. It uses ASM, but it still has a VG and a logical volume spans the entire VG. It was explained to me back then this was considered a best practice when utilizing the Grid Infrastructure (take that with a grain of salt). But its all the end result, not the how-to part of it all.

Ironically enough I am hoping to do a similar install, though may not use ASM, in the near future for demo with Oracle and flash performance. So I will share anything I learn and please do likewise.
