How to temporarily lock a WO from edits (for a long duration WO)

    Maximo 7.6.1.2:

I have a parent work order that will take a crew 6 months to complete.

For the duration of the work order, I want to prevent any edits from being made in Work Order Tracking.

Is there a way to lock the WO from edits -- and then unlock it again at a later date?

    Example:
    • A custom action --> Lock
    • Six months later: A custom action --> Unlock

The locking/unlocking could be performed by a normal user -or- IT Admin (either would be fine). This process only happens for a handful of WOs per year.

I would look at creating a custom action using an automation script that adds a row into a new object to hold the work order number and siteid and possibly the user that locks the record. Then add an object data restriction with a condition that makes the record read only if the wonum exists in this new object. You would then need an unlock action as well to remove the workorder from the new object.
This method would make the object read only at an object level so even integration actions would also be unable to edit the record unless you make the condition allow admin users to still edit the record so it would only be locked for all other users.
I hope this information is useful and keep us updated if this method works for you.

We have many options to make workorder application active or inactive by either using set action at workflow process,
associating automation script with button in workorder application.

Regarding how to set action using workflow process, as you say it take crew 6 months to complete.

    - you can make script either based on date, you can set this workflow process as well after reaching at following status
you have to make your workorder readonly for 6 month, and after 6 month workflow process move to next status and make the
    workorder active.

Associating automation script with button in workorder application

    - you can set password for that lock, which IT Admin set in backgroud for that WO application,
add custom button of Lock and Unlock button and password field in your workorder application through application designer
after this if user want to lock this workorder than user will enter passowrd in password field in WO, than user
will press lock or unlock button, when user press lock button lock button than system authenticate enter password with
background password, if password match than WO will lock else it will show error in the screen. Same process when user press
    unlock button.
