Yes you absolutely can, the two don't interfere with each other. There are some considerations. Will the transfer server be in the DMZ? Or behind the Proxy Gateway? If behind a Proxy you would deploy the Transfer Server separately in the internal network zone and the Proxy and Shares in the DMZ, so on two different machines in two different network zones.
If you have the transfer server and Shares on the same machine and in the DMZ that's absolutely fine as well. The only consideration is upgrades and maintenance; with experience I find it easier to do maintenance when on separate machines, so you can treat them separately, take Shares down and it won't affect transfers, upgrade separately etc.
